Dropped On My Head, Upside Down was composed in 1999 for flautist Margaret Lancaster. This piece is No.11 in a series titled Polyrhythmic Modulation Studies. As with the other pieces in the series, Dropped On My Head, Upside Down explores the use of temporal modulations as a primary compositional element. This piece juxtaposes the accuracy of modulations obtained by the computer with the inaccuracy of human performance. The intent is to make them work together rather than to contrast them.
