The process of manipulating sounds with the computer often results in new sounds that have such a complexity of inner activity to them that there appears to be inner themes at work. Variations on an Already Complex Theme is an ongoing series of works where I am interested in emphasising this inner activity by deconstructing the complex sounds into their individual parts and then re-composing them in a more intentional way. The original sound manipulation as well as the decomposition processes were done with software written at the Bregman Electro-Acoustic Music Studio at Dartmouth College, U.S.A.
